The Crystal Ceefax Ball

Steve Sidwell's move to Chelsea on a Bosman was seen by many as a money-grabbing move by a player who will spend most of next season warming the bench. They may well be right...

No. 2: May 2008 - Steve Sidwell ends his Chelsea nightmare by moving to footballer scrapyard Middlesbrough, who are inevitably under new stewardship.

Care for a bet on how many games the Ginger nut will start for Chels this season?

Alright. The Angle says he'll make 20 starts (in all competitions).

Hardly makes him 'bit-part' does it? SWP certainly didn't get that many in his first year. After all, he has no international experience yet and is there to provide additional cover for Chelsea especially during the ACN.

Firstly, WE didn't say he would be "bit-part" - Middlesbrough manager Paul Jewell did, on Ceefax in May 2008.

Sidwell could make 20 starts next season and still be a "bit-part" player.

In fact, The Angle suggests that, much like the Home Office requirements for a non-EU player's work permit, if a player doesn't play 75% of his team's games, then Ceefax is likely to regard him as "bit-part".

Don't shoot the messengers, Peter. We don't make the rules in the world of football cliches, we just report them.
